He is widely regarded as the greatest chess player of all time.
In 1991 Judit Polgar, born in Budapest, Hungary, became a chess grandmaster at the age of 15, at the time the youngest ever to do so, male or female, breaking the revered Bobby Fischer’s record. Playing mostly in men’s tournaments she rose to eighth ranked player in the world, man or woman, including numerous open tournament victories, and famously beat reigning Kasparov in tournament play in 2002. Since retiring in 2014 Polgar established the Judit Polgar Foundation promoting chess for children, and founded two educational programs for pre-school and primary school children promoting learning through chess, which today are included in the Hungarian national curriculum. In 2015 she founded Judit Polgar’s Global Chess Festival. She was awarded th Commander’s Cross with Star of The Hungarian Order of Merit, one of Hungary’s highest awards
